Authentication
This is basic process of AAA. Is a method for identifying users. Authentication process takes place every day on the world and also can be performed on CISCO devices. Example can be your ID, badge, driver license etc. Authentication can take place as an individual process or can be combined with authorization and accounting.
When you configure a CISCO device for authentication, the following steps are performed:
- Enable AAA process
- Define location, protocol, secret key
- Define a method list for authentication
A method list defines type of authentication and sequence to perform it in. It is necessary to apply it to an interface before the authentication methods are used. A default list exist and it is applied to all interfaces.
